Instead of tossing your empty ink cartridges and old cell phones, put them to good use by donating them to the SMAS! We collect these items and send them in for points that go towards purchasing new equipment. Your old ink cartridges and cell phone get refurbished and put to good use also! This is a very easy way to help us out!

volunteer at the smas

The SMAS cares for almost 1,000 animals each year, and each one requires (and deserves) great care.  Because we operate on a very limited budget, we rely on the community to help us help the animals. Whether it be donating money or supplies, volunteering at the SMAS, opening your home to a foster animal, or adopting a pet, every little bit helps! There are many ways to help out the SMAS and we always appreciate any help we can get! Explore how you can help below!

help us help the homeless animals in Mahaska County

Every year the SMAS receives animals requiring extra attention that is best given in a home environment. We rely on volunteer foster homes to help us care for these animals and help them get back into tip top shape and ready for adoption. If  you think you might want to open your home to a foster pet, then click below for more information on becoming a foster parent!
